I can’t get drunk?

OK this is an odd one and I’m not sure which sub to ask, so if it’s not good here perhaps you can redirect me.

I’m 58M and have never been anything more than an occasional social drinker (glass of wine in a restaurant, beer on vacation).

About a year ago I stayed over at a friend’s house and we had a bottle of wine each. He got drunk. I did not. I figured maybe the wine was low alcohol. It wasn’t.

Over the next few months I actively tried to get drunk – different types of wine, strong beer, vodka, whisky. The wine and beer made me pee a lot. The vodka gave me a brief stomach pain. None of them made me drunk no matter how much I had.

I know heavy drinkers can develop a tolerance but I’ve never been close to that. In fact I’d rarely had more than one drink in a single day since my early twenties and even then it wasn’t a lot.

Has anyone else heard of this? I just find it odd and wanted an explanation.
