Review: 2025 Fio A Fio White Blend
When translated from its native Portuguese, “fio a fio” means “thread by thread”, an homage to the nation’s textile and lace-making industries. It is also a rather appropriate way to describe how I am feeling about the upcoming adventures of Portugal’s mens national soccer team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Delightful expressions aside, this Portuguese white is a blend of Fernão Pires, Loureiro, and Albariño varietals from the Vinho Verde region, and makes its debut stateside this summer. Perfect timing.
Highly aromatic as it pours, the wine offers notes of white flower, lychee, and pineapple on the nose, each taking turns as the dominant aroma in the glass. There’s plenty of fruit on the palate, with passion fruit and peach leading to an expressive finish that leans into the peach notes. A touch of minerality cuts through, preventing it from being overly fruit-forward. It’s well-balanced, agreeable from start to finish and worth checking out. Especially at such a reasonable price point.
