1993 Dom Pérignon curiosity

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to share a bit of a unique story and get some thoughts from fellow wine/champagne enthusiasts.

Years ago, I was on a business trip to Paris for Fashion Week, and a friend I was traveling with gifted me a bottle of 1993 Dom Pérignon. At the time, we were both doing really well financially, and honestly, I didn’t drink at all and didn’t think much about it other than knowing it was expensive.

Because I was focused on packing all the clothes I’d bought and been gifted during the trip, I unfortunately threw out the original box and only minimally wrapped the bottle itself to save space. That resulted in some slight cosmetic issues: the foil capsule around the cork is partly torn, and the front label has a few imperfections, though it’s still pretty presentable overall.

After the trip, I stored the bottle immediately in a climate-controlled storage unit with no sunlight exposure. Back then, I was living in Marina del Rey, Los Angeles, in a pretty pricey neighborhood, and the storage unit itself cost over $300 per month. For years, I’ve kept most of my valuables stored in either of my two storage units — one in Northern California and one in Southern California — both maintained in cool, dark, stable conditions.

Recently, I started looking into vintage Dom Pérignon and realized buyers usually care a lot about fill levels, and I checked mine — the liquid level appears exactly where it should be for a bottle in good condition.

So now I’m kind of curious: • Has anyone else kept older champagne like this for decades? • How much do cosmetic flaws like torn foil or a slightly imperfect label affect people’s interest or value? • Would this be something people here would hang onto for a collection… or maybe eventually part ways with?

I’m not much of a drinker and honestly don’t see myself opening it anytime soon, so just exploring thoughts from folks who know more about vintage champagne. It’s been sitting untouched for years, and it’d be nice to know if anyone here has had a similar experience, or any advice on what to do with it.
