Sick from Vodka but not beer. why?

I normally drink beer, maybe one or two a week max. I love the taste, it’s a nice buzz. I decided to try vodka (Grey Goose), and I felt AWFUL. All of a sudden I felt tipsy and slightly drunk, but it was very different than beer. I was in a bad mood, felt physically sick. I only had a shot of vodka but even today, the day after, I feel a bit down and I know it’s from the vodka. I will definitely only be sticking to beer from now on! Why is vodka so different? Is this all hard liquor?
