How to drink “safely” as a “heavyweight”?
I was blessed/cursed with fairly high ADH levels. This means that despite being around 140lbs, it takes me roughly 17.5 US / 10 UK units (i.e. 250ml of 40% spirit or equivalent) to become even barely tipsy. According to medical studies I’ve read, this also counterintuitively means that when consuming the same quantity of alcohol as the average person, I’ll end up with higher formaldehyde concentration in my body (and consequently accumulate liver/brain damage quicker). Not to mention that this makes getting drunk at a bar exorbitantly expensive.
I do enjoy drinking socially though. I enjoy the taste of alcohol. I enjoy how it fixes my stutter. I enjoy how it makes me less of a picky eater. I enjoy how I happen to be a “wholesome” drunk. I also hope that the recent studies showing that alcohol consumption delays damage from arthritis (which applies to me) won’t turn out to be mistaken like the cardiovascular stuff (which didn’t anyway). Despite how it sounds, I’m not an alcoholic by common definitions though – I have no issue with not drinking for long periods of time.
So I was wondering, what are my options here? I’d like to get drunk every once in a while, but needing to down dangerous amounts of alcohol just isn’t sustainable.
