gas stations don’t id for alcohol?

me and my boys were planning on getting some alcohol for a house party so i went in (im 17) and i carried 20 tall boy tweas to the counter and he just scanned them and we went on our way. do gas stations just not care this was my first time getting alcohol. it feels too easy to get i could’ve sworn they would’ve checked id.
