Can I drink 40 beers in one day

Gonna try this weekend. Is it any safer drinking a lot of alcohol over a whole day, than getting fucked up all at night? Like if I drink a few beers every hour the whole day and just stay fairly drunk, will I be less likely to get alcohol poisoning than getting blackout drunk at once. Hopefully this makes sense.
