A lesson learnt!

I had bought a 1 litre bottle of Bailey’s Irish cream recently and while buying it I noticed the bottom cardboard had some drink split over. I just assumed another bottle in the case had broken and it was from that. When I got home I noticed a lot of cream on the bottom of bottle, but I just assumed it was from the leaked bottle and didn’t think too much about it. Since it was already dry, I just wrapped the bottom in some newspaper as I was getting late for work and left it in my cupboard.

Fast-forward three weeks later, I took the bottle out of my cupboard to notice dried Bailey’s in the newspaper. I thought maybe some of the stuff just fell from the bottom and I poured myself a glass.

Once I was finished with it, I decided to give the bottle a nice wash before I put it back in the shelf, I got all the gunk out, wiped it dry and left it on the shelf. Around 10 minutes later, I noticed bailey on the side again. On closer inspection there was a long crack, very fine, but apparently big enough to let the liquor out.

For half a second I thought about getting smashed in the interest of saving the liquor. But after a little bit of research on whether it was safe (because of potential glass shards, didn’t think too much about my liver), I emptied almost 950ml down the drain. It hurt seeing it all go, but lesson learnt, do not buy any food/ beverage that has any sort of stain on it. Better safe than sorry.
