Thoughts on taking alcohol in the car for a short drive?

For context this is not something I do but have family members. In addition, I am not anti drinking as I drink and sometimes get drunk myself.

However, recently I noticed several my family members taking alcohol in the car for drives less than an hour. For example, we all live in the suburbs of a major city. Before going we may pregame a bit (not get drunk) and then some may take a can or two in the car for the road. My initial reaction in my head has been “can you not wait till we get to our destination.” There are legal risks of open carry even if the driver is not impaired one bit.

If I were to say something, I know my comments would be brushed aside. I would be viewed aw a party pooper or no fun.
