I need recommendations for scotch

My husband’s birthday is coming up and I’m making him a little reading nook, and I’m planning on wrapping up a nice bottle of scotch for him to enjoy while he reads. He’s hinted at Glenfiddich, but there are so many options (different years, etc) and I’d really like to get him something special but not outrageously expensive. I don’t want to mention anything when it’s so close to his birthday, because I really want to surprise him.

I don’t know shit about shit when it comes to liquor, and I would really appreciate recommendations. Thanks in advance.
