Fatty Liver Anxiety

So i’m considered a heavy drinker by my doctor (5 – 6 beers a day with much more on weekends) for at least the last 6 or 7 years.

So it starts 2 months ago after a night of relatively high alcohol intake. I woke up with a dull but constant pressure in the middle of my abdomen right under my sternum, with absolutely no other symptoms. I didn’t pay much attention to it for the first month or so but finally decided to go see a doctor.

Initially heart was checked and ruled out, so the doctor said it was more than likely a stomach ulcer and started treating me for that. (I didn’t want to wait to go for gastroscopy and just wanted meds to make it go away). I got PPI’s with probiotics and 2 different anti-biotics and was told to stay away from alcohol. This combination seemed to help a lot for the most part except for one day where i had a bit of pain.

When my antibiotic cycle was complete I abstained from alcohol for a further 2 days at which point I fell back into my normal drinking habits. Two days after drinking again the single symptom returned but this time with a lot of pain on top of pressure and pain with a burning sensation across my entire chest as well as along the bottom of my rib cage.

At this point I decided to stop drinking again just to see what happens. after 2 days off alcohol again most pain was gone only leaving the dull pressure sensation for the most part. I started reading up a lot and basically scared myself shitless with chronic pancreatitis and liver problems which all present pretty much the exact same sort of dull chest pain.

I asked my doctor to do blood tests to test for any issues with pancreas or liver and this is where my fear starts even though my doctor said its nothing to worry about (yet).

Blood results are all normal across the board except for three markers

C-Reactive Protein: 6

ALT: 84

AST: 42

Now I realize this isn’t exactly sky high, but it is my AST/ALT ratio that bothers me. As you can see the ratio is 0.5 which is very low based on my understanding and I’m not really sure what to think of it. I am going for gastroscopy on Monday to look at stomach and hopefully confirm its just a simple stomach ulcer. Doctor also wants to redo liver function tests in a month to see AST/ALT levels.

Anyone out there with a similar experience ?
