(red wine) Joel Gott Cabernet Sauvignon, and Yosemite Road Cabernet Sauvignon
Last week I went out with my dad to a bar/restaurant. We noticed they were serving a cheap wine for only a few dollars so we decided to give it a try. I was impressed, it wasn’t too bitter and had a few pleasing notes to the taste. That wine was Joel Gott Cabernet Sauvignon, it impressed my dad who is somewhat a red wine enthusiast.
Joel Gott has low to moderate-ish bitterness, a profound roasted butter note (I’m told it’s from the barrel) followed by a sweet syrup, smooth and tacky texture, and a long lasting acidic berry aftertaste.
Yosemite Road is similar with more focus on ripe blackberry which makes it more bitter/sharp, light butter note, and less tacky than the Joel. This has less going for it, but it’s half the price as Joel Gott. I prefer the Joel.
I first had wine a few months ago shortly after my 21st birthday and took a flight of several red wines that were fairly expensive. I didn’t like any of them, all I tasted was nail polish. For a while afterwards I drank whiskey, rum, and IPA’s which likely changed my taste allowing me to notice more tasting notes. So I adapted, or cheap wine is made less bitter for the masses.
I’m happy to say that I can enjoy red wine, at least on the low price range.
Does anybody have thoughts to share on my experience? I’d also like to know if anyone here likes 19 Crimes because I want to eventually give that a try. My family swears by it.
