Review: Marigot Bay Rum Creams, Complete Lineup

St. Lucia Distillers is known for its rums, but the distillery also cranks out a number of related products, including a new line of rum creams — essentially your Irish cream formula, minus whiskey, plus rum, plus a variety of flavorings. Four products are currently on the market, and we tasted them all. Let’s check them out.

Each is 25 proof.

Marigot Bay Coconut Rum Cream – Bold and authentic, coconut notes kick things off on the nose, tempered by a gooey, rum-like sweetness. On the palate, the coconut quickly takes a back seat to more aggressive and indistinct sweetness, in fact it almost wholly dissipates as traditional cream liqueur notes of vanilla candy, caramel sauce, and milk chocolate become more dominant. A whiff of toasted coconut on the finish keeps you in the moment, though only for a few seconds. B

Marigot Bay Chocolate Coffee Rum Cream – Darker in color than the others, as expected, you can really smell the coffee here as it pours into a glass. The palate mixes both chocolate and coffee flavors together well, with a touch of cherry and a bit more obvious booziness than some of the other expressions provide. The sweetness is lingering and more than a little cloying, coming across like the sludge at the bottom of a mug of Swiss Miss. B

Marigot Bay Spiced Rum Cream – A more traditional cream liqueur flavor, this liqueur offers bold cinnamon and vanilla notes, cut with a rummy molasses quality. Despite the appearance of some raisons on the finish, the liqueur never feels overbearingly sweet or cloying, and it sips quite nicely on its own. I imagine a coffee pairing is wholly in order. Probably the most versatile of the lineup. A-

Marigot Bay Peanut Rum Cream – Peanut! Imagine liquified peanut butter candy — 5th Avenue, perhaps — and you aren’t far off from the experience here, which offers bold, authentic peanut notes paired with lighter touches of vanilla and some milk chocolate on the finish. Surprisingly the least sweet offering in the lineup, and perhaps my favorite — much to my personal shock. A-

each $22
