Boneyard Blood Orange Ale, Jack Daniel’s Black Jack Cola

I got these from my latest shopping trip out of curiosity and no other reason. Boneyard is a local company along with a few others where I shop, and I never had anything blood orange flavored.

I also never had hard soda before. I didn’t think Jack Daniel’s sold any, I simply assumed they only made whiskey.

The blood orange ale is slightly underwhelming. There’s a great amount of flavor in the beginning, but there is a long lasting dull bitterness that I do not like. I do taste a very slight hint of grain or malt that I associate with beer, I wish it had more of that. Lots of carbonation. Not bad, but I’d choose something that I already prefer. I think I’ll try out their other options because they had a more regular ale and a 10% ABV version that I forgot the name of. If I do end up liking the different versions from Boneyard, I may buy them more often since it fits really nicely in my backpack I use for cycling to and from the store. Most of my other options at this store are almost too big in packs unless I only buy alcohol per trip. 6% ABV 12oz.

Side note. I’m not really sure if my dislike towards the blood orange ale has anything to do with me not liking the flavor in general (this is the only blood orange thing I ever had), or if it has to do with this being an extra pale ale, whatever that means. If someone could educate me a bit that would be helpful. Ale is new to me, I am somewhat familiar with beer but I don’t know how different ale really is.

The Jack Daniel’s Black Jack Cola, to no one’s surprise, is very good. It’s got that familiar coca cola taste with a hint of caramel, cherry, and a slight taste of the alcohol itself which blends well together. This is a no-brainer for a large dinner or something. 4.8% ABV 10oz.
