New to drinking

I have never had a lick of an alcoholic beverage in my life (I’m 28) and I want to know where I’d start. I know a good bit about beverages, what they’re made of, etc.. but what drinks do I start with?? I think I’m most concerned about wasting money on something I don’t like. I’d prefer to make my own stuff at home for now.
