My personal drinking rules
Just so everyone knows I’m just becoming a little more health conscious. I don’t have any dependency on alcohol and can go however long without it. But since I was 21 (28 now) I tend to binge alcohol on weekends out which wouldn’t be good for me or the people around me (my physical health, drunk texting, ruining relationships and bullshit like that) I Just want to feel and be healthier and better than I used to be around people while still enjoying drinks. I want to know if there are any holes or problems with my personal little rulebook I’m making myself, or if it sounds reasonable. Feel free to add or correct me. Just know that these are my personal rules and I am not attacking your lifestyle and I’m not a doctor. Any advice, praise or criticism is good here. Anyway here you go.
My personal Drinking rules:
Always eat food and drink water before going out. Even better if I eat and drink food and water before, during and after drinking.
Absolutely NO Drinking and driving, whether it’s me or friends driving. We Uber, stay in or have a DD, or no drinking that night.
Friday and Saturday only, with occasions (birthdays, barbecues, get togethers etc.) still keep track of how many I’ve had within those seven days and be as minimal as possible. Perhaps reduce weekend drinking that week, or stay home.
Drink max 6 beers a night. 4-5 if I have a shot. Ideally shoot for only getting 4 beers each night, even better if I do 4 beers one night and three the next.
Drink 2 to three beers during occasional days
Always keep track of time and amount
Sip. Don’t chug. IF for whatever reason I decide to chug, chug one beer, sip the rest. But ideally just don’t. Because of my tendency to be a very social drinker who likes to involve himself in chugging along with friends.
On that note, drink at my own limit. Screw the “I’ll out-drink you” challenges that friends might want to employ
Drinking games on occasion but know when to stop and don’t drink until the week after
If drinking alone on those chill, beautiful evenings with music and video games or movies, drink 1-2 beers. Only have one of these evenings once every couple or few weeks. Do not make it a daily or even weekly habit. Once in a while.
Drink to get a buzz. Not drunk. I and probably everyone else enjoys a good buzz over being drunk any day.
Have friends hold eachother accountable.
Never drink when sad. Only deal with problems with a sober, clear head so I do not become dependent and/or destructive. Drink when in a great mood only.
Never drink starting through the day and ending at before bed. In the event that I do have a day drink session, do not drink at night, or spread the drinks out. Maybe 1 or 2 during the day and 3 or 4 at night. Ideally, wait until night time
Enjoy the company of others sober. If they like to drink, I don’t always have to join them. It’s better to know how to enjoy the company of others without needing to loosen up. Working on confidence and valuing the time of Loved ones while being sober will make the drinking nights much more enjoyable.
Eat healthy during the week. Beer makes me want to eat the tastiest, most unhealthy combinations of food. Eat the daily 80/20 vegetarian/ carnivore diet especially if ima have a pig out meal or two on the weekends from those beer munchies. Healthy amount of carbs etc. eat vegetables and fruits that span the color spectrum. Especially super foods. Ensure that I am getting every needed vitamin weekly and on a daily basis. Perhaps do liver, kidney and other cleanses on a weekly or bi weekly basis
Don’t convince myself that the drinks are gunna sprout legs and run away if I don’t drink a certain amount before the night’s over. Spacing the drinks out an hour to two hours at a time with water and food in between some of them will work wonders
Exercise daily throughout the week at least 3 times a week. Cardio and strength training.
Drink loads of water throughout the week as well.
Enjoy myself and my company. Not just the opportunity to drink. And have something to celebrate, even a small victory. Something to really cheers to and mean it. Mentally rewarding myself rather than thinking “oh it’s the weekend, time to drink” be happy and celebrate with friends. Be present, Laugh and be excited for the future. Leave the past and life’s troubles at the door
