Bought vermouth for manhattans, did I get the right kind?

I have this vermouth and knob creek bourbon, I’ve tried making a Manhattan but it tastes like shit. Recipe calls for 2oz bourbon, 1oz sweet vermouth and bitters. Did I fuck up? Or is the drink not for me? I also don’t have bitters yet but will get some tonight. Merry Christmas, thanks for the help
