What’s the point of security locks on alcohol?

I know it’s probably to prevent theft. But I just bought some liquor, it had one of those security locks with a wire, but they didn’t take it off at the store. Not only did any alarm NOT ring when I left, the lock also doesn’t prevent you from opening the bottle cap, so why is it even there?
