Does alcohol affect memory/thinking properly?

Ive always been bad at remembering and always had a foggy mind (not being able to focus on memories and what people say too well ect ) but I feel since drinking it has gotten much worse I started drinking in December was is it a coincidence or did alcohol impact it?
