What liquor shuould I give to an unexperienced friend?

So, my friend is turning 18 and I want to give him an alcoholic drink. He never drank alcohol, so I was wondering about a drink that is friendly to unexperienced drinkers. Something not so strong and sweet would be ideal. Any tips?
