How to do shots?

I’ve tried drinking vodka recently and ussually i would just have it with enough of something else to dilute the flavour but I don’t want to just drink extremely diluted cocktails, I want to drink it straight. When you see people doing it they can swallow the drink as soon as it hits their mouth but my problem is I can’t do this and when I drink the shot it stays in my mouth for a few seconds and it’s difficult to swallow. Could anyone give me advice on how to drink a shot and swallow it without it lingering in my mouth?
