Nose: like a bag of marshmallows that has some graham cracker crumbs in it, smells super sweet with a ton of vanilla & brown sugar. I want to dive into this glass head first.
Palate: oily, sweet, spicy, a huge amount of sweet vanilla bean that’s been mashed into a 5lb bag of cherries with brown sugar.
Finish: very long, black pepper spice, that oily mouthfeel moves towards a drier finish with the perfect amount of charred oak & then a hint of tobacco.
Final thoughts: let me start by saying I’ve always been a big EC fan. From the regular shelfer to the Annual SBBP releases to the BP store picks. I have never bought an EC18 due to the price & proof. Glad I didn’t because I have tried 3 different ones & always been very disappointed with it. Seeing this 15Y bumped up the proof by 14 points had me intrigued. So I took a chance when a friend bought one & offered it to me at cost. I am absolutely happy to get my hands on one! This is nothing like the EC18 imho. And everything is absolutely right about this bottle. At least this barrel. Remember there is a very good potential the one you find will not be the same barrel as mine. This is a thick, oily, sweet mouthfull of cherries & sugar! And then the perfect amount of wood influence on the backside that you want without taking it overboard. Now, do I like spending 150+ tax on any bottle? Absolutely not! Do I think this bottle is worth msrp? Yep! But that’s my opinion & palate. I’ve only bought a fee at that price point. So my rating will include the price point.
Rating: 8.5/10 could have been a 9 if it was closer to 125ish. Though for me 10 🦌’s a year is very fair and standard. Glad they didn’t go above that.
