Review: Pallini Limonzero

Pallini’s Limoncello is a classic liqueur. But should you want that racily sharp lemon liqueur flavor without the booze behind it, there’s now Pallini Limonzero, reportedly the first NA limoncello to hit the market.

The NA liqueur is made using the same primary ingredient as the standard limoncello, with Amalfi Sfusato lemons offering that trademark sweet-and-sour bite (along with plenty of sugar to balance things out). There’s not a lot of process information disclosed about this product, but we do know that Pallini CEO Micaela Pallini has a PhD in chemistry, so maybe there’s more magic to this than just steeping lemons and sugar in water for a few weeks.

Pallini Limonzero Review

The results are worthwhile, if a bit simplistic. The intense citrus notes on the nose immediately recall powdered Country Time Lemonade drink mix, which I attribute to the hefty amount of nostril-searing citric acid in the recipe. The palate settles down, thankfully, with ample sugar (but not too much) tempering the sourness of the lemon. The spirit remains acidic enough, fortunately, ensuring the fade-out is cleaner than your typical ultra-sweet Limoncello. I got a hint of lime mixed in with the lemon here, too, which I didn’t mind at all.

A- / $25 (500ml)
