Review: 2020 Renato Ratti Barolo Marcenasco DOCG

Our last encounter with Renato’s Ratti Barolo was with the 2016 vintage. Four years later, here’s how things have developed.

Tart and restrained, this wine shows less overt earth than your typical Barolo, with ample notes of anise and a sustained balsamic edge. Blood orange peel compounds the enduring tartness, with rhubarb clinging to the finish. I missed the depth of a great Barolo — but Renato’s expression has always been on the lighter side of the Barolo spectrum.
