Getting drunk for the first time made me realize why people keep doing it despite it being bad for health

I(25M) am a doctor. I personally don’t smoke and didn’t drink. I’ve seen many cases of alcoholism and problems that come with it at the hospital I currently work for and throughout my med schooling years…. I thought to myself why do people keep drinking even though it’s adverse effects are made aware to the public, why can’t they just stop or something? But boy was I wrong…

I got drunk for the first time last night. I was feeling lonely and I don’t have any friends to hang out with or do something fun, so I decide to give drinking a try and I got hammered… I couldn’t even stand up straight.

That feeling of loneliness….. *poof* gone.

That pain I’ve had on my left knee for years post ACL repair surgery… Gone. Now that I’m sober…. I wanna drink again to mask that loneliness and pain.

I had only read and seen these kind of cases in textbooks and clinics but since I got to experience it first hand last night….. I’ve changed my opinion about people trying to quit alcohol but struggling.
