Alcohol makes me throw up before I even get drunk. Has anyone dealt with this?

I’m 22 and alcohol has basically always made me feel horrible so I’m debating if I just need to give up on it. I have no idea where to talk about this so I am posting it here I apologize if it does not exactly fit the guidelines. I have not found anyone talking about what I am going through I feel a bit alone on this.

When I first started drinking around 15 I would sneak Tito’s from my parents’ liquor cabinet. Even back then I would get nauseous really quickly, end up throwing up, and then have the worst hangover the next day.

When I was 16 I went on Accutane for the first time and after I got off it I started running into a new problem. Not only would alcohol make me feel horrible and sick but I also could barely get drunk. I could drink a lot and not feel anything while still ending up nauseous and throwing up. I remember drinking almost half a bottle of Pink Whitney myself once and still not really feeling drunk just extremely nauseated. So I distanced myself a bit from alcohol and began mostly smoking for the rest of high school.

By the time I got to college I was able to start feeling the alcohol a little more but I still was never able to get to the level my friends would. Most nights I either ended up throwing up or just stopped after one or two drinks because I felt so bad. The frustrating part is that it takes a lot for me to even feel drunk but my stomach clearly can’t handle drinking that much. When I’m out drinking I might feel slightly drunk for an hour or two and then I start feeling horrible the same night. It’s like an instant hangover that happens the second the alcohol wears off rather than one the next day. 95% of the time I drink I end up throwing up at least a couple times and sometimes for hours. By that time I usually feel mostly sober again, so I’m stuck dealing with the nausea and spinning feeling for hours while basically sober and it is genuinely hell.

I’ve tried switching what I drink to see if it would help. Vodka made me feel terrible so I switched to gin because I read it might be easier on the stomach. I also cut out sugary mixers and typically would use mio or just water with some lime. It helped a little but not much.

When I was 19 I did a second round of Accutane at a higher dose and decided that I was still going to drink on it (1-2x a week and no more than 3-4 drinks). Weirdly that was the only time drinking ever felt normal for me. I could actually feel drunk from a small amount and didn’t feel as nauseous because I didn’t have to drink as much. But it also caused the only blackouts I’ve ever experienced and they would sneak up on me at random. I would feel tipsy one minute and then I would suddenly come to hours later throwing up in my bathroom.

After getting off that second round my intolerance got even worse. Now I can barely drink anything without feeling sick. Recently I had about a glass of beer and a quarter of another with my girlfriend’s coworkers and I threw up hours later when we got home. Wine is probably the worst for me (horrible headaches) Tequila and rum are also bad.

What confuses me is that my family can drink normally and have pretty high alcohol tolerances. I also don’t get the flushing reaction people talk about with alcohol intolerance/allergies. I just feel extremely nauseous and sick.

Aside from that short period during Accutane I’ve never really experienced drinking the way my friends and family do and it makes me feel like I am missing out. But at this point I’m honestly just tired of dealing with how horrible it makes me feel.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Did you ever figure out what was causing it/find a solution that works or did you just stop drinking?
