Review: Heineken 0.0 Cold Pressed Lime and Nectarine Juniper

Heineken 0.0 is one of the most widely available N/A beers on the market, and I suspect it’s popular for one major reason: It tastes just like regular Heineken, which can admittedly be a little funky-skunky, with aggressive maltiness and some cardboard overtones. Now Heineken extends the line with the goal of having a bit more fun: These two new N/A offerings include fruit components (and more!) to liven things up. Let’s give ’em a whirl.

Heineken 0.0 Cold Pressed Lime Review

There’s something of a lemon-lime quality on the palate here, with those limes eventually winning out as it develops in glass. There’s a certain artificiality to the beer at the start, perhaps inevitable, but in time it settles down and the brew reveals itself as surprisingly clean and refreshing, lightly sweet but tempered by that acidic lime — increasingly juicy the longer it lingers on the tongue. In the end it comes across as more of a credible alternative to a seltzer than a beer, but with restrained fruit elements and a smear of ruddy malt helping to keep it grounded. B+

Heineken 0.0 Nectarine Juniper Review

Fret not: The juniper component here is mild at best. This is a very orangey beer, light on its feet and incredibly gentle, the juniper mentioned in the title little more than a whisper of herbaceousness, evident only on the finish, which is otherwise mild and straightforward. This has even less of the funkiness of standard Heineken 0.0, and acquits itself even more like a tangy seltzer. I found it quite enjoyable, but those afraid of fruit in their brew will want to look elsewhere. A-

each $11 per six-pack
