Review: 2022 Archimedes Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley
An under-the-radar flagship wine from the Francis Ford Coppola Winery, Archimedes is a luxe cabernet with special occasion vibes all over it.
Somehow the 2022 vintage of this wine is exceptionally rich and full of coffee and chocolate notes — without becoming overly dense or cloying. Bright notes of raspberry are clear and quite fresh, giving the wine an immediate vibrancy. Time in glass helps more evocative notes of orange peel and late-game lime leaf to emerge, adding some acidity to what might otherwise be a less complex affair. As it stands, this is one of those rare cabernets that has the gravity to pair with prime rib as well as the liveliness to drink alongside a delicate piece of fish. (I know, I did.)
