Review: Pezuna Blanca Tequila, Complete Lineup

Entirely USDA-certified organic, Pezuña Blanca Tequila is a new line of tequilas making its way to US markets now. One noteworthy detail of production: the tequila is made using the natural yeast in the environment. Beyond that, we don’t know much about the brand. The tequilas come in attractive, earthy, over-sized, bottles and would make an eye-catching gift. Let’s give them a try.

Pezuña Blanca Tequila Blanco Review

Unaged, the tequila hits the nose and palate with bright notes of sweet, roasted agave as well as gentle pepper and lemon. Midpalate, some alcohol kicks in, a bit hot for an 80-proof tequila, but not overpowering. The finish is fairly long and enjoyable until, at the end, there is a slight metallic flavor. Overall, a good tequila that works on its own or in a cocktail. B+ / $65

Pezuña Blanca Tequila Reposado Review

Aged 4-6 months, this tequila offers a good balance of agave and wood. On the nose, there’s vanilla, chocolate, red bell pepper, and white pepper. The palate leans a bit more toward what we tasted in the blanco with sweet, roasted agave coming first but is quickly balanced by vanilla notes and pepper. The metallic flavor we tasted in the blanco shows up on the finish here as well, but it is more restrained. B+ / $75

Pezuña Blanca Tequila Añejo Review

Aged 15-18 months. Gentle aromas of vanilla and chocolate come first, balancing each other nicely, followed by a touch of red bell pepper. The palate brings vanilla bean and dusty chocolate, which are joined by a nice kick of black pepper and a light alcohol bite. Unfortunately, along with these notes comes that metallic flavor we found on the finish of the blanco, but it is more pronounced here, and for me, it detracts from the experience. Aside from this one negative point, the flavors of the tequila are on point, enjoyable, and play together nicely. B / $85
