Review: Gamble Family Vineyards Sauvignon Blancs – 2023 Reserve and 2024 Yountville
Today we take a second visit this year to Napa’s Gamble Family Vineyards, with two new sauvignon blanc wines on tap.
2023 Gamble Family Vineyards Reserve Sauvignon Blanc – The reserve release of the sauvignon blanc Rob reviewed last year. Similar in tone, this is a tropical, fruit-forward wine with a rush of peach and pineapple, tempered by a gentle bitterness that comes across as quite minerally, almost steely. Lightly grassy on the back end, the wine is ultimately tempered by some greener elements that keep the heavier fruit tones in check. I enjoyed the journey this wine takes you on when sipped solo, yet it’s also fully approachable as a friendly pairing option for lighter meals. A- / $150
2024 Gamble Family Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc Yountville – This is a clean and rather innocuous expression of sauvignon blanc, focused initially on melon notes and balanced by elements of lemon curd and, in time, coconut cream. Gentle waves of grass overtake the wine as it develops on the palate, providing the clearest link to the family DNA, while a reprise of coconut and gooseberry inform a lengthy, sunny finish. A- / $60
