Why do different types of alcohol have different effects/feelings during the comedown?
A lot of people just say, “alcohol is alcohol” but every experienced drinker knows being beer/wine drunk is TOTALLY different from being vodka/tequila drunk.
And thus, their comedowns are totally different, at least for me.
Examples:
Beer: Relaxed, chill, predictable, no major hangover/side affects during the comedown if you only had just a couple other than GI side affects like bloating/gas (ESPECIALLY WITH IPAs).
Wine: Funny, makes you feel “loose”, intimate, sleepy. Can have a bad dizzy/nauseating comedown though. It’s the most weed-like alcohol to me.
Whiskey: Predictable, relaxing, introspective, CAN be a party alcohol or it can be a kickback alcohol. Comedown/hangover is a little bit of everything but no one symptom really stands out. Certain types of whiskey cause sinus inflammation for me after it wears off.
Tequila: Seems like a total party liquor just for getting smashed, liquid sloppy courage, bad/nauseating hangovers. Everyone has an interesting story about tequila.
Vodka: Just a straight up intoxicating dangerous alcohol that will make you do things you’ll regret and doesn’t really make you feel happy/relaxed. I think of vodka as something you’d drink during the apocalypse just to make chaos feel tolerable. Comedown is a very mentally draining/depressing mindfuck with anxiety and the after-effects linger FOREVER.
Obviously every alcohol will have nauseating/horrible hangovers/effects if you drink enough. But I’m just talking about average amounts of consumption like a few beers or a few shots/drinks.
Does anyone else agree or have any scientific explanation for this? I know the answer is probably going to be, “everyone metabolizes alcohol differently” but why are the effects so strongly distinguishable between the various types? Even when consuming the exact same amount.
