Review: 2023 Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais-Villages
Beaujolais-Villages is one of the great value wines of the world, and if you want to get into the category, you can’t really go wrong starting with one of the biggest names in the region, Georges Duboeuf.
This 2023 release is a refreshing and effusive gamay-based wine, melding notes of fresh cherry and raspberry with a lightly tannic note that gently evokes cranberry and anise. Keyword: gently. Fruit leads the way on a palate that, in time, finds room for orange peel and a bit of spice. Nothing outrageous, but the wine offers a versatility that pairs well with just about anything, those spicier notes giving the finish a gingery lift. Green and black tea notes both linger, alongside some tart blood orange elements. Well-rounded, with plenty to explore — particularly at this price.
