Review: Penelope Black Walnut Old Fashioned
Penelope previously had a hit with its ready-to-drink Peach Old Fashioned, and now its back with a second bottled cocktail. The berry doesn’t fall far from the tree on this one, as peach has been subbed for black walnut in the appropriately named Penelope Black Walnut Old Fashioned.
The product features both Penelope straight bourbon and rye whiskey blended with black walnut bitters and vanilla demerara sugar.
Penelope Black Walnut Old Fashioned Review
The product is on point, though those without a sweet tooth need not apply. Brown sugar dominates but is paired with fruity pops of bruleed banana and cherries, with lots of vanilla on top. Maple notes continue the theme of a decadent Sunday breakfast, but those walnut bitters give the late game experience some gravity in the form of a lightly peppery and quite nutty quality which lingers along with a pinch of cinnamon.
Drop a brandied cherry and a sliver of orange peel into a shot of this on the rocks and the guests at your next event will think you’re a master mixologist.
76 proof.
