Review: Escasa Blanco Tequila

Luxco’s isn’t dancing around the premium nature, or price, of its newest blanco tequila. Even the name, Escasa, means “scarce” in Spanish. The details, per the brand:

Crafted in Los Altos de Jalisco, Escasa Tequila is dedicated to the opulence of scarcity, the result of hundreds of years of knowledge distilled into one bottle. Founded in 2024 by renowned fourth-generation Master Distiller Graciela “Grace” Gonzalez, Escasa embodies rarity and perfection. Using 100% Blue Weber agave from a different single estate each year, the agave is cooked for a minimum of 24 hours before milling and pressing. Bagazo fibers are introduced from the milled agave to the fermentation tanks to deepen the Tequila’s flavor dimension. After fermenting with heirloom yeast and pure spring water, Escasa undergoes a groundbreaking triple-distillation process.

On paper, it certainly sounds more artisanal than a lot of tequilas flooding the market today. But how does it taste?

Escasa Blanco Tequila Review

On the nose, there’s plenty to admire. It’s a full, rich aroma with an almost creamy texture. Top notes of pink peppercorn and sweet, stewed agave are inviting and familiar, but as things open in the glass, unique undertones of warm citrus – cooked pineapple and a bit of mulled orange – enhance the aroma further, eventually giving way to agave syrup and a hint of brighter grapefruit peel.

The palate is a little more straightforward, highlighted by pulpy agave and fresh, energetic notes of sliced pineapple, lemon peel, and a little bell pepper. The midpalate introduces a gentle warmth accented with cinnamon and clove that builds modestly with fresh ginger notes into a round, silky finish of pear skins and black pepper. I wouldn’t go so far as to call all of that rare, but Escasa a very good blanco tequila. I’ll let you decide if that’s worth the price of admission.

80 proof. NOM 1603.
