Why is there a stereotype that nerds don’t drink or do drugs?
I’m a huge nerd, senior in computer science degree and I spend almost all my time programming or working on electronics projects or reading books. If I’m not doing any of that, I’m playing Magic the Gathering or fromsoft games. I am quite literally a stereotypical nerd, I wear glasses and constantly correct people and whenever someone mentions any of my interests I immediately join conversations full force.
But at the same time I’ve been through a lot in my life. In Highschool I started secretly smoking weed, then popping Xanax, adderall, klonopin, vyvanse, oxy, hydros, hell even LSD and ketamine at the peak. It never affected me too much academically and it was more of an emotional cope for at the time being homeless and my mom dealing with psychosis. I was so good at hiding it that nobody knew till this year whenever I told some of my friends.
Of course now I’ve chilled out, but I still drink quite frequently (every night 2-4 beers, on my 2 days off about 8), but my friends who are also in my same interest groups find it so hard to believe that I am like that with also upholding a 3.8 GPA and being the head of so many clubs and just being one nerdy geeky ass motherfucker. Not hating on people who chose not to drink or do drugs, just weird that I get excessive judgement and inquisitiveness into how I am able to be the way I am and still drink alcohol
