Shots and drinking culture

Hello. Let me rephrase my question. Are shots common in the US and Britain (as well as in Western countries)? Strong alcohol or just beer and wine. I’m 23 years old and sometimes at cool parties I like to drink shots. For example, once a month. Will I be rare and marginal in your countries?
