Review: 2022 Louis Pommery Chardonnay Carneros
You probably know Louis Pommery for its Champagne production — but may have missed its 2019 expansion into California. This Carneros Chardonnay is its first U.S.-based offering, with all the grapes sourced from a single vineyard in the AVA.
Louis Pommery offers a refreshing chardonnay, moderated with its oak and showing notes of stone fruit and baked apples, in roughly equal proportion. Notes of apricot, guava, and grilled pineapple all make an appearance alongside a very gentle salinity and minerality, which helps to temper what might otherwise be an overload of fruit. The finish is clean with creamy lemon notes, almost like an Italian ice that melted long ago and melded with some vanilla ice cream left out in the sun. Fresh and versatile.
