Weird Sudden Extreme Drunkeness?

Something that has been happening to my friend when I drink with her is She will drink a bit, and be fine. She will still be coherent, and not totally sloshed. However, an hour or so after drinking, she will suddenly get extremely drunk. Usually if she gets a little bit stressed. What is this? Does this happen to anyone else? Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.
