Review: 2023 Louis Latour Macon-Villages Chameroy and Pouilly-Fuisse
New white Burgundy wines from Maison Louis Latour, both from the 2023 vintage.
2023 Louis Latour Macon-Villages Chameroy Review
Muted, with notes of coconut over light lemon curd notes dominant. Chewy on the palate as it evolves, the wine runs to notes of almond nougat and gooseberry, its fruit restrained but lingering in the background. Time in glass doesn’t really help perk up what feels like a tropical bent lying in wait, and I suspect time in cellar would not either. B / $22
2023 Louis Latour Pouilly-Fuisse Review
Similar the above, but doughier, with more of an almond focus, lightly salty as it develops in glass and warms a touch. Again the wine features elements of coconut, lemon, and gooseberry, but its entire character is wrapped up tight — balls of hemp rope restricting its fruit from ever percolating to the surface. Air time here is definitely to the benefit of the wine, coaxing out notes of baked apples and quince, but it’s a long time coming and, perhaps, too little too late. B- / $36
