Review: Mocktail Club Non-Alcoholic Cocktails, Complete Lineup
High-quality, non-alcoholic, canned cocktails continue to become more and more popular, with Mocktail Club the latest to hit the scene. This Black, woman-owned brand now has five canned options on the market, all lightly sparkling, gently sweetened cocktails served in 12 oz. cans designed to serve one or two. The company devotes 1% of sales (sales!) to clean water charities.
We tasted the full lineup. Thoughts follow.
Mocktail Club Havana Twist – A “faux-jito” of lime, cardamom, cucumber, and mint shrub. This is a stellar mocktail, offering a bold and authentic lime flavor, paired with ample mint, the bit just about perfect thanks to the zippy, vinegary shrub in the mix. The spicy underbelly doesn’t immediately connote cardamom, but ample exploratory time helps the exotic flavor to coalesce; meanwhile the cucumber is understated, but present. Agave-driven sweetness is just about perfect here, balancing out the racier attack. Complex and hard to put down; I never missed the booze at all. A [BUY IT NOW FROM AMAZON]
Mocktail Club Capri Spritz – A mix of pomegranate, cranberry shrub, lemongrass, and tea. A bold fruit punch of a mocktail, with the vinegary shrub doing a lot of heavy lifting. The pomegranate sweetness quickly takes over and evokes a grenadine character, quite fruity and ringed with a little of that peppery-herbal lemongrass quality. A touch of orange peel on the finish adds complexity. For those seeking an N/A cosmopolitan, this should do the trick nicely. A- [BUY IT NOW FROM AMAZON]
Mocktail Club Manhattan Berry – Pomegranate, pear shrub, and ginger. The ginger and the vinegary shrub work well together to spice this up from the start, while the pomegranate provides an appropriately purple-sweet tempering. There’s a chewy vanilla-chocolate note on the finish that comes out of nowhere — but which adds a new dimension to the beverage. Notes of tinned pears linger on the back end. Nice little number, very summery. A- [BUY IT NOW FROM AMAZON]
Mocktail Club Bombay Fire – A blend of pomegranate, decaf tea, and a bit of chili pepper to spice things up. Lightly peppery but wholly manageable, the pomegranate does the bulk of the heavy lifting here, offering a rich and almost raisiny character that, as with all of these concoctions, feels authentic. Notes of milk chocolate and a gentle tea character build from there, while touches of chili pepper add a “level 1” spice to the proceedings, mostly noticeable if you have dry or chapped lips. Another winner, though I know many drinkers don’t like peppery heat in their cocktails. A- [BUY IT NOW FROM AMAZON]
Mocktail Club Bali Breeze – A pina colada-adjacent mix of coconut, lychee, and lemongrass. The coconut is strong here, but mercifully shy of evoking suntan lotion or its ilk. Lychee provides an interesting twist instead of the more expected pineapple flavor, while the lemongrass doesn’t feel wholly necessary here, adding a touch of spice that doesn’t come across as entirely complementary to the tropical vibe the drink sets. On the whole, however, it’s a summery and lively cocktail that works almost as well as any of the above — though I preferred sharing a can instead of consuming the whole serving.
