Review: 2023 Bouchaine Non-Alcoholic Rose Carneros

Vintage-dated, estate-grown wine? Sure. Vintage-dated, estate-grown, non-alcoholic wine? That’s a rarity.

Bouchaine‘s new rose is made from 100% pinot noir grown at its own vineyards. Let’s dig in.

The wine is refreshing and gently fruity, though slightly gummy with overtones of pastry dough and eventually notes of nutmeg. The chewiness helps to evoke a bolder body that isn’t always present in non-alcoholic wines, and which keeps the wine from meandering too close to fruit juice territory. Elements of honeydew melon, lemon curd, and honeysuckle make for a perfectly summery experience — though the berry-laced fruit notes endemic to most rose wines are surprisingly elusive. Perfect for a sober summer!
