Review: Vevor R1 Slushie Machine
Summer is officially here, and as the temperature rises, so does the need for a refreshing, icy drink. On April 29, 2025, Vevor unveiled its latest addition to the world of frozen beverages: the Vevor R1 Slushie Machine (Model #R1-RXR02(W)-N7-3-01), a sleek and affordable “do-it-yourself” 2L machine designed for home use. Priced at $260, this compact powerhouse brings the frozen drink bar right into your kitchen. (Feel free to compare to Inoviva’s Slushie Machine.)
Weighing just 23 lbs and measuring 17 x 6.7 x 16 inches, the Vevor R1 is easy to move and store—perfect for those who value counter space. It arrives pre-assembled, but Vevor recommends disassembling and washing all parts before the first use. A helpful tip: when reassembling, make sure the black rubber sealing ring is properly aligned. Even a small twist can cause leaks once the tank is filled. Testing the seal with water before adding your ingredients is a simple way to avoid messes.
The Vevor R1 isn’t limited to just one type of frozen drink. It features settings for milkshakes, slush, frappes, frozen juice, spiked slush, and cold drinks, giving you a range of options. The included instruction manual provides a few basic recipes, but the real fun starts when you get creative. Custom recipes are highly encouraged, with just a few key guidelines: sugar content should fall between 6% and 16% for the machine to freeze properly, and alcohol should be between 4% and 16%. Sugar-free alternatives and diet sodas won’t work, as the machine relies on real sugar for consistency. If you’re experimenting, a Brix refractometer—available for around $19 online—can help you dial in the sugar content accurately. The liquid can also be as simple as adding a bottle of wine or a few cans of non-diet soda.
Using the machine is simple. Just pour your liquid through the top flap, power it on, pick the desired setting, and press start. The machine will begin churning and chilling the mixture based on the preset mode you selected (ranging from 1 to 7, with 7 being the coldest). As the machine works, the display shows the current temperature, and once it reaches a clumpy frozen state, the screen changes to “cooling” as the drink is refined into a smooth, sippable slush. On average, this takes about 30 minutes. That said, in my testing, perfect consistency was rarely achieved on the first try. You may need to tweak the temperature with the “+” or “–” buttons and run the cycle again. Because every recipe behaves a bit differently, and ambient temperature plays a role, it’s smart to start the process at least an hour before you plan to serve drinks.
Once you’ve nailed the consistency, the R1 delivers where many other slushie machines fall short: it keeps the slush evenly mixed. One of my biggest annoyances with store-bought or restaurant slushies is that the juice quickly separates, leaving behind bland ice. With the Vevor R1, the slush stays uniform throughout, sip after sip.
Over two weeks of testing, I ran a wide variety of recipes through the R1. I made a frozen Old Fashioned, tried Vevor’s included margarita recipe, mixed up a non-alcoholic piña colada, and crafted milkshakes for the kids. In nearly every case, I had to adjust the machine’s presets to get the consistency just right, but once I did, the results were excellent. What started as a fun experiment quickly became a daily treat. My initial skepticism about owning a slushy machine turned into genuine enthusiasm. The R1 quickly became a favorite in my household, and visiting friends were equally impressed.
At $260, it feels like a luxury item that earns its place. Whether you’re making boozy frozen cocktails or kid-friendly milkshakes, the Vevor R1 delivers consistent, tasty results with just a little practice. I love it—and I think you will too.
