Review: CasAzar Tequila Reposado
CasAzar is the newest tequila vying for membership in the exclusive, ultra-ultra-premium tequila market. This distinguished club of tequilas is marked by exorbitant price tags along with impossibly tall bottles that don’t fit on any typical liquor shelf and require special placement where they can, hopefully, garner even more attention. And yet, despite the hype, the tequila inside these bottles is sometimes first rate.
With its unique, towering bottle made to look like a high stack of gambling chips, CasAzar seems to have set its sights on the high-stakes casino market. The blanco, reposado, and añejo varieties appear as white, green, and black chip stacks respectively. The brand was started in 2024 by experienced former Diageo execs (and husband/wife duo) Max Ramirez and Viviana Sierraalta-Ramirez. Today, we are trying the reposado, which is 100% blue Weber agave, aged 7 months in American oak casks. Let’s give it a try.
CasAzar Tequila Reposado Review
The tequila starts with a gentle nose of lovely agave, rounded off with wood: clarified aromas of lime, red pepper, and roasted agave come first, followed by light vanilla, a touch of milk chocolate, and oak. The palate is similar, but here the wood plays a slightly heavier hand. Lime and vanilla come first, followed by fleshy, roasted agave. Midpalate introduces light milk chocolate which integrates nicely with the other flavors and lasts through the long, lingering finish.
This is a lovely sipping tequila that is too good to mix into cocktails. It will appeal to fans of reposado tequila that appreciate herbaceous agave balanced beautifully with the influence of wood. And yet, the price seems higher than this 7-month-old tequila can demand, bottle notwithstanding. At half its current price, I would enthusiastically recommend CasAzar tequila reposado and rate it higher. At its current price, I recommend it primarily to serious tequila fans who hit the jackpot.
