Review: Yeyo Tequila Blanco High Proof
Yeyo has always* been a solid tequila that refuses to release anything other than a blanco expression — or to go away. After a 2010 launch, the brand vanished, then was revived in 2019 at the same distillery. Now, finally, a new expression of Yeyo is on the market — and it’s not an aged tequila. This time around it’s a higher proof version of its silver bottling — though now it is billed as Blanco on the label (as is the old Silver). No word on whether the classical music is still part of the fermentation process.
There’s not much more to tell you here, so let’s dive into the tasting.
Yeyo Tequila Blanco High Proof Review
Yeyo Silver was always clean and fruit-forward, and this 2025 Blanco is no exception, even with the abv pumped up to 48%. A big squeeze of lemon dominates the nose, the agave playing a distant second fiddle. Blow into the glass and something of an orange marmalade sweetness emerges.
All of this is totally on point for Yeyo, though there’s even less vegetal agave present than you find on the 80 proof silver version. That tracks on the palate, which is surprisingly sweet and enduringly fruity, gently floral and not at all driven by earthy elements. If anything, a bit of peppery spice clings to the back end of the tequila, but it’s very restrained, and the citrusy showcase remains intact. Lastly, there’s a slight sprinkle of salt on the finish.
The only thing left to consider is the extra punch of another 16 proof over the standard edition. It’s noticeable, but Yeyo High Proof never offers anything approaching the classic “burn” of an overproof spirit. Sipped straight or with a mixer, it goes down nearly as easy, though with, you know, a slightly bigger pop. Most cocktails will be able to use these interchangeably; a spicy margarita would be killer with this one, though.
96 proof. NOM 1414.
