Whiskey question

Hey all, years ago I overdrank on whiskey… And for a very long time even the smell turned my stomach. These says I can handle the smell, BUT tasting it still causes problems. I am trying to learn a new recipe for gravy and it has whiskey in it. Before I go throwing away money on a small bottle of whiskey to try this, how likely is it I will respond with an upset stomach to this gravy do y’all think? (Like… Does it still taste like whiskey or is it like how red wine in a stew tastes completely different to a glass of red wine?) And if it will still be an issue, what alternatives might you recommend? (It’s a poutine gravy… So think rich savoury flavors if that helps) Thanks in advance!
