Alcohol tastes stronger than it is

Why is this? I usually do a vodka coke/pepsi mix, grey goose vodka specifically, but I’ve tried others and they’re fucking terrible. Now, I’ll admit, I do have a pretty powerful sense of taste, but I don’t think it should be this bad. I mixed like two shots worth of vodka with half a liter of coke, but fuck, the taste was still overwhelming. It’s even worse with other vodka types, however, to the point where usually I give up on drinking and just hand my drink off to someone else – Usually, they think it tastes fine, hell, they say it’s super weak. So why does it taste so potent to me? Sometimes I’m a little better at handling it, but even then, it grosses me the fuck out. I only bear with it to get drunk. Am I just fucked when it comes to alcohol? Is it because I mix with coke/pepsi? I’ve been drinking for a little while now, though a bit infrequent, but I swear, it shouldn’t be this bad!
