First time vodka drinker

What brand would be best for a first timer? Ive heard my friends say they sometimes mix vodka with Ice Drinks which are good on their own but am interesting in spicing things up. Ive had eine and beer. But never vodka. Im in centeral florida if location affects anything. Thanks!
