Why does Dark rum taste so disgusting..?

I know its personal preference but.. Black rum is beautiful taste perfectly spiced across brands. Golden rum works so well with most things as does white rum. But mistakenly buying dark rum specifically.. it tastes horrible, be it Captain Morgans, off-brahds or anything. They taste so strong and overpower your drink. Am I the only one who dislikes it?
