Review: 2022 Damaris Reserve Chardonnay Sonoma Coast

A sub-label of Landmark Vineyards, Damaris produces just one wine — a chardonnay sourced from the Flocchini Vineyard in the Petaluma Gap AVA and the Kiser Vineyard in the Western Sonoma Carneros AVA. Damaris, incidentally, is the first name of the winery’s late founder, Damaris Deere Ford, the great-great-granddaughter of John Deere.

We received a sample of the latest vintage, which celebrates Landmark’s 50th anniversary. Thoughts follow.

There’s immediately a nice balance of vanilla and tropical fruit elements here, with the wine moving into a gentle coconut note with time in glass. The finish, however, exudes almond notes, lightly spiced, while evoking a marzipan quality. Hints of green herbs and some lemongrass give the finish a lightly grassy quality… plus a touch of lingering earth that clings to the back of the throat. Hardly groundbreaking, but strangely exotic in its own way. Worth exploring, especially with a meal.
