how long after taking xanax i can drink alcohol?

I’ve been prescribed 0.25mg Xanax XR for my fear of flying, but i have an important event to attend after my 6 hour flight and I’d like to drink there. Would 6-8 hour gap be ok? I’ve read that half-life of xanax xr is longer that the ordinary one..
